Google Developer Student Clubs (GDSC) lead journey.
Graduated as a Google Developer Student Clubs (GDSC) lead 2020–2021 from MUET Jamshoro.
At first, getting a selection letter from among many candidates applying, that too from the poll of 43 GDSC leads of Pakistan in Cohort 2, you get to be chosen one for continuing leading GDSC MUET Jamshoro was a GREAT ACHIEVEMENT in itself, then finding an amazing team who actually made me rethink my decision to quitting this program, YES. We then together continued it while facing most of the challenges: organizing new things, cooperating with the team, and doing events never done before in history, we made it. But it was not as easy as it sounds like. This is how it actually went like-
People who made it possible ❤
With them, there existed our 2020-2021 tenure’s sub teams including: Department Representatives, Volunteer Interns, and members. They too did perform an exceptional role with the mentors/heads, as the Core team of GDSC MUET’20. Hence, each team did it’s best and I as a lead witnessed it. Thank you my people 💗
Milestones
🚀 GDSC MUET had events, sessions, boot camps, collaborations, podcasts with living proof on a dashboard where our milestones are written forever. ❤
Dashboard
By making first-mover achievements as of introducing the first podcast series on “THE IT WORLD TODAY” by being first in the entire GDSC Pakistan region. If you wish to see them here.
It was not as easy as saying to introduce the first podcast series @ GDSC MUET Jamshoro and @ GDSC Pakistan level, as it took blood and sweats for the GDSC MUET Jamshoro team to record, set up, manage the flow of the podcast, and arranging renowned speakers to provide us healthy discussions for our students/audience. From pulling up for the podcast recording day in the scorching sunlight, keeping up later too for editing and the rest is very important to mention here. The PR drives we went to promote the cause of GDSC to the juniors, shall be remembered, as for these little steps we created a great influence. This is to my team: Your cooperation made us this far, cheers. I appreciate your existence forever!
PR Drive 2021
- Dr. Muhammad Aslam Uqaili — Our worthy Vice-Chancellor at MUET Jamshoro, made it to the podcast speaker list to talk on “MUET’s role in Tech-Job-Pandemic-Future”, and we’re forever grateful to him, as the audience loved the interaction. You can watch podcast #2 with VC MUET here.
- Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (PVC) of MUET Jamshoro, has been invited as our 3rd podcast speaker @ GDSC MUET Jamshoro to throw beacon light on “MUET management and importance of social clubs/activities for students”. Watch this podcast #3 here.
- Dr. Qasim Ali — Our podcast #1 Speaker on Security, an amazing first podcast up on YouTube.
Such Podcast speakers were very notable, as getting to engage with them was a great honor in itself by representing Google DSC in front of them, else it wasn’t even possible to have them with us today.
Representation
GDSC MUET Jamshoro was a greater part of me in the year 2020–2021, to bring it up and alive, and showcasing my club to the world, was always a priority. With that, we represented GDSC MUET on:
- Introducing GDSC MUET to Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of MUET, Jamshoro.
- Campus aur club podcast, covering representatives from clubs of MUET.
- Live with Sir Hisham Sarwar, a big name in the freelance industry.
- An insightful session with Mudassir Azeemi, Lead Product Designer from California.
Thank you, mentors!
Thank you to Sir Saad Hamid as I am really short in words, to explain how much he has created an impact in my life, a mentor like him was all we needed honestly, caring the most helping, jolly and heaven-sent personality always inspiring to do more, Aa thank you so much, sir!
A token of appreciation to ma’am Hufsa Munawar and Sir Shad Roi for joining us in the mid of the tenure from being “the best” from day 1. Never felt like a mentor was missed, always there for the solutions, guidance and you both are a full packet of energy (pun: not a photon 😄)
A big shoutout to Erica Hanson for making us up to date with the events at Google and doing the best virtual meetups globally, we love your spirit to lead this entire global GDSC community. Thank you for choosing us!
The idea of getting started with the exemplary fellow leads, their assistance in the entire tenure for me is really appreciated. Thank you!
My advice to the new leads:
- Be confident and don’t stop believing in yourself.
- Focus on your health and education meanwhile volunteering in GDSC.
- Keep your family and family first always, as they would be your true supporters.
- Keep your relations with everyone good.
- Set your tenure’s agendas/goals.
- Build your public profile, i.e. “personal branding”.
- Grow with your team together, give them chances everywhere, they’re keepers. ❤
- [IMPORTANT] Celebrate every little win and have fun on this journey.
- Balance your personal and professional life. It’s ok to post your meetups with your friends on Instagram, making TikToks with them, without you fearing that with the role of “lead”, you can’t do it. PLEASE!
- Stop listening to what “negative” people have to say about the things you’re doing and which you know are great!
- Be kind as a leader!
- Set an example for the next.
- Lastly, create an impact.
